adaptive tranquility
The In-Out bathtub, designed by Benedini Associati for Agape in 2009, is a study in geometry and material expression. Its circular for, offered in solid surface, marble, or concrete, anchors the piece as both a functional vessel and a sculptural presence. The simplicity of its footprint allows it to adapt to different architectural contexts, while the flexibility of positioning taps on either the wall or floor gives designers and homeowners freedom in composition. Over time, the collection has evolved: a marble version was introduced in 2015, followed by a concrete option in 2020 that extends the bathtub’s use to indoor and outdoor environments. In 2016, it was recognized with the Wallpaper* Design Award for “Best Soak,” affirming its place in contemporary design culture.
The design carries forward Giampaolo Benedini’s philosophy of precision and pragmatism, where structure and material are inseparable from form. In marble, the tub reads as a monolith, its precise lines set against natural veining or in concrete, it reflects a more industrial, architectural language. The interplay of permanence and softness, stone or cement shaped into a vessel for water, underscores the balance at the heart of Benedini’s work.
For Agape, founded in 1973, the bathroom has always been a place of ritual, reflection, and design innovation. The In-Out bathtub reflects this ethos, embodying fifty years of research into materials, technology, and lifestyle, all while remaining entirely crafted in Italy with processes that honor both sustainability and craft. The In-Out represents Agape’s vision of the bathroom as the emotional core of the home.

Giampaolo Benedini, architect at Poli Milano. Co-founder of Agape and CEO until 1990, art director until 2000 and designer of the main products and offices of the Company. In 1990 Benedini & Partners was born. In 1999 the design of interiors, fittings and design takes the name of Benedini Associati, with Bibi and Camilla. Since 2013 Camilla has been follow- ing an autonomous path for commercial and museum installations. B&P designs industrial architectures, building renovations and new home and office constructions; staging of Museum and Cultural Exhibitions in Palazzo Te, Casa del Mantegna and Palazzo Ducale in Mantua. Bibi Benedini, holds administrative and management roles, selects furnishings, researches materials, finishes, color combinations and of course is involved in every project. In 2020, to offer interdisciplinary consultancy, the studio begins a close collaboration with the architect Vittorio Longheu and the engineer Antonio Sproccati giving life to BLS DESIGN.
