The Shaker System by Raf Simons is a new concept for the home, resetting how we live and creating beauty from order. A total habitat, it is a salve for a complex contemporary life. A storage system and edit of accessories honoring utility, function and materiality and by reflecting those values bringing meaning and artistry to the home. The conceptual starting point is the 1969 Vision 1 exhibition of Italian designer Joe Colombo, in which he presented not just individual products but an adaptable domestic system. Building on this system concept, Simons drew inspiration from the Shaker culture, American minimalist artists Donald Judd and John McCracken, and the French decorative arts designer Jacques Adnet. The result is his “Shaker System for the home of today”, a unified series based around the power of one – one system, one textile, one (tone in tone) color – and infused with Raf Simons’ fashion signifiers.

The emblematic textile in the Kvadrat/Raf Simons collection, Vidar 4 was designed by Fanny Aronsen and colored by Raf Simons to expand the palette with richer, more nuanced colors. Woven from bouclé. yarns with a regular loop size, Vidar 4 has a deep, tight, large-grained texture that lends itself particularly well to the graphic use of color. The gentle satin surface finish of the weave contrasts with the deep shadowy tones in the depths, giving a multifaceted richness to the intense colors in the range. Tightly woven, Vidar has an inviting texture, which variously recalls blackberries, orange peel or the comforting close-knit texture of a favorite sweater.
