Innovative opening system integrating interior lighting

With Massimo Castagna’s Grand Buffet sideboard, Acerbis reinterprets this classic Italian piece with elegance and practicality, adding LED lights and greater accessibility to the back of the compartments. Divided horizontally into two spaces, the upper compartment adopts the evolution of Acerbis’ patented and unique Dual-Flap® opening system: one touch tilts the front panel to a 90 degree shelf, while part of the top lifts up for easy access.

To make the movement of opening an essential element of beauty, to give functional design added aesthetic value so that it becomes a surprise: this is the basis behind the solid, innovative concept of the Acerbis opening system. The patents for the Acerbis systems, such as the Dual Flap® and slide-and-pivot doors, embody an idea that goes beyond tradition to make movement itself an object of design.

Born on 13 November 1957, Massimo Castagna graduated in architecture in 1984 from Milan Politecnico; he began his professional activities in 1986, founding the studio AD architecture. He has gained considerable professional experience in the field of architecture, interior design, art direction and design in the furnishing sector. One of his major creations has been the “Piramide” laboratory the Everest-K2-CNR scientific committee for the Italian National Research Council, which was built in Nepal beginning in 1991 at an altitude of 5050 m., to be used as a high-altitude research laboratory, a project selected for the 18th Milan Triennale.

Sideboard. The height of the cabinet (H75 cm) is divided horizontally by two large flap doors (H30 and H45 cm) with finely tapered edges. The upper door, fitted with the Dual-Flap® system, is easily opened for access to the interior compartment featuring a backlit white methacrylate backrest. The upper door, once opened, offers a bearing surface at a convenient height for serving. The backlit matt methacrylic rear panel has an LED lighting system that switches on automatically when the upper door opens.

Glossy lacquer doors, top and sides; transparent glass shelves. Steel base painted with epoxy pigments in Micaceo grey finish, H36 cm. Glossy lacquer colors: black, white, chalk, linen, sand, clay, burgundy, pink, green, mustard, brick and navy.
