light and shadow, transparency and reflections
With the Sol Side Table, the Spanish designer duo OrtegaGuijarro have created a design with an impressive wealth of facets. As strikingly simple as the construction made of glass panels of different sizes may be, at second glance it is quite complex. Depending on the perspective, the incidence of light and shadows, the colored-transparent elements of the table merge into ever-changing silhouettes and visually trick their observers. Elegant sculpture or functional side table? Sol is not either/or but both at the same time.
Carlos Guijarro and Alex Ortega stand behind the design studio OrtegaGuijarro founded in 2017 in Barcelona. The two designers with a background in industrial and interior design have set themselves the goal to create individual and surprising everyday solutions with their work.
The trademark of their designs is clear and, at the same time, poetic aesthetics. On their way towards their goal, they always set out on a search for the perfect interface between curiosity, experimentation and technical innovation. The disciplines within which they move comprise art and fashion as well as technology.
“Everything is inspiration, everyday life is full of details, forms and lines – you just have to find a good starting point.” - Alex Ortega
