BENT TO PERFECTION

The Osuu Chair, designed by Foster + Partners for Walter Knoll, brings elegance and innovation to life through a perfect balance of simplicity and intricate craftsmanship. Created from responsibly sourced wood from the Black Forest and certified by FSC®, this chair uniquely blends bentwood and plywood, forming an organic and dynamic shape. Its distinctive outer arch elegantly embraces the body, flowing seamlessly into the front leg - truly capturing design poetry in motion.

The accompanying video takes you behind the scenes, revealing the meticulous manufacturing process. Witness how skilled artisans carefully shape and assemble each component, highlighting the precision and expertise required to master the delicate art of bending and crafting wood. Especially remarkable is the use of nutwood, a rare material that only a handful of manufacturers worldwide can expertly bend and form.

Foster + Partners, renowned for iconic structures such as the Swiss Re headquarters in London and the redesigned Reichstag in Berlin, carry their architectural sensibility into furniture design. The Osuu Chair embodies their commitment to marrying traditional craftsmanship with contemporary innovation, creating furniture versatile enough for both intimate residential interiors and sophisticated public spaces.

THE CURATED OASIS

Inspired by the serene landscapes and wellness-focused interiors she designed for the W Hotel on Vieques Island in 2008, Patricia Urquiola introduced the Vieques bathtub as a contemporary homage to traditional bathtubs of the past. Urquiola captured the essence of nostalgic simplicity, translating it into a modern form defined by its clean lines and thoughtful use of materials. Initially intended for luxurious indoor spaces, the stainless steel outdoor model expands this vision, effortlessly extending the comfort and tranquility of the bathroom experience to outdoor living areas such as gardens, terraces, and patios.

In an era where spaces are increasingly designed to blur conventional boundaries, Agape's outdoor Vieques bathtub embodies this shift, creating new opportunities for relaxation and connection with nature within everyday life.

Patricia Urquiola, an internationally renowned architect and designer, studied architecture at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Politecnico di Milano, mentored by Achille Castiglioni. Having collaborated with influential designers like Vico Magistretti and Piero Lissoni, she established her Milan-based studio in 2001. Urquiola's impressive portfolio includes collaborations with prestigious brands such as Louis Vuitton, B&B Italia, Kvadrat, and Ferrari, and her designs have been featured in leading museums including New York’s Museum of Modern Art and Milan’s Triennale Museum.

A MODERN EXERCISE OF AN ARTISAN CRAFT

Sabine Marcelis takes us inside the furnace where the Lokum takes shape. Every step, from glass working to blowing, reveals the craftsmanship of the artisans who shape an object that is as simple as it is complex. Matter, light and color merge in an intense material interplay in the Lokum series for Acerbis. It is a collection that captures the sophistication of minimalist shapes, enhanced by the skilled craftsmanship of blown glass. Sabine Marcelis, known for her poetic and meticulous use of reflective surfaces and color nuances, has fashioned a collection that radiates ethereal charm. This collection produces remarkable interplays of light and shade.

Sabine Marcelis is an artist and designer who runs her practice from the harbor of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. After graduating from the Design Academy of Eindhoven in 2011, Marcelis began working within the fields of product, installation and spatial design with a strong focus on materiality. Her work is characterized by pure forms which highlight material properties.

Marcelis applies a strong aesthetic point of view to her collaborations with industry specialists. This method of working allows her to intervene in the manufacturing process, using material research and experimentation to achieve new and surprising visual effects for projects both showcased in museums and commissioned by commercial clients and fashion houses.

THE ALURE OF MODERN CLASSICS

Bibendum is one of a kind. Nowhere in the history of design will one find an armchair that compares to this. It is captivatingly harmonious despite its size and unites a majestic impressiveness with charm and esprit like no other leather armchair. Eileen Gray underscored the character of her endearing parlor lion with sly irony; she named it after the Michelin man, whose form this armchair calls to mind.

Coming from an aristocratic Irish-Scottish family, Eileen Gray went to London and Paris to study architecture and design. She first made a name for herself as a leading designer of lacquered walls and decorative panels. With her theories on design and architecture, she left an indelible mark on our ideas about living; her work is considered the epitome of Modernism. Gray’s tubular steel furniture, revolutionary at the time of their creation, are considered classics today. Her Adjustable Table E1027 is one of the most famous and most-copied designs in the world. It was added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1978. Her Dragons Armchair was sold in 2009 for the unbelievable amount of €21,905,000 and, at the time, became the most expensive design object ever to be sold at auction.

The non-conformist’s lifetime achievement was honored in 2013 with a major solo exhibition at Centre Pompidou in Paris. The production of the movie “Price of Desire” and the documentary film “Gray Matters” (both 2014) continued the success of the exhibition. Gray’s most famous architectural design, the Maison en Bord de Mer E1027 on the Côte d’Azur, was reopened to the public in 2015.

WITH COMPELLING RIGOR

Lodovico Acerbis has created an iconic sideboard that perfectly highlights the superiority of the materials and the high-quality finishes that form the very core of Acerbis Design. The surface of the Ludwig sideboard is unadorned with handles or embellishments, instead employing the Dual-Flap® patented system to open the entire front panel with a simple touch while the top simultaneously offers easy access to the anterior areas. The internal space is conceived as a single and easily accessible large compartment organized by two thin chrome-plated metal frames, clear glass shelves, and drawers.

To make the movement of opening an essential element of beauty, to give functional design added aesthetic value so that it becomes a surprise: this is the basis behind the solid, innovative concept of the Acerbis opening system.

Lodovico Acerbis was born in Albino, Bergamo in 1939 and graduated in Economics and Business in Milan. In 1963 he joined his father’s company with the aim of creating design furniture by applying the most advanced technologies and the best materials. Founded in 1870, as a carpentry workshop, the company under his direction reached industrial dimensions and established itself as a leading company in the sector. Lodovico Acerbis combined his work as an industrialist with that of a designer, producing some of the most significant creations of Italian production, often signed together with Giotto Stoppino, with whom he created a fervent creative partnership.

SCULPTED TO FUNCTION

Corker originated at the London Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2012. The design of the temporary summer pavilion was a joint project by the architectural office Herzog & de Meuron and Chinese artist, designer and architect Ai Weiwei. The cork design object was part of the overall concept. The silhouette of a wine bottle cork served as inspiration. The piece of furniture can almost be viewed as a pop art object due to its direct, simply enlarged reference to an object taken from everyday culture. Warm, grounding, stable and flexible in the ways it can be used: Corker is one of those universal talents that simply look good in any environment as an extra seat or side table.

Herzog & de Meuron was founded in 1978 by the two architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron in Basel. Today, the office is managed by the two founders together with the senior partners Christine Binswanger, Ascan Mergenthaler, Stefan Marbach, Esther Zusteg, and Jason Frantzen. An international team of almost 500 employees, including the two founders, five senior partners, ten partners, and 41 associates is working on projects across Europe, North and South America, and Asia. Herzog & de Meuron’s headquarters are located in Basel, with branch offices in London, New York, Hong Kong, Berlin and Copenhagen. The renowned office has designed a large palette of projects that range in scale from private homes to urban planning.
